To Heidi Wahl and Senevir;
And others that may find this post and any records of Prussia.
My ancestors too changed their names to more English names; Wilhelm to William, Friedrich to Fredrick. Immigrated to Australia in early 1900s.
They may have changed their names to be accepted into society rather than outcast due to war or the opinion of Prussian born at the time.
There doesn't appear to be much online to try and trace them back due to being survivors, many records were destroyed to save lives or erase wrong. If you find anything, please contact me by return message so others who search and land on this post may know too. X.

Oh, mein Lieber !!!!! Is there anybody out there who knows the city Gera ??? Those priceless memories! My family had no garden. But my girlfriend did. By the way I'm an old girl now We used to sneek into her house after school fearing the booming voice of her mother: Is that you, Eva???.We rolled our eyes. : The well known fact: We had to go to the Schrebergarten . Hauling water .Soaking a million plants. A long way up the Nicolaiberg, towards the Ferberturm. After this we felt entitled to rid the garden of its sweet, delicious green peas. .When ask, we blamed the Amseln. A sweetly singing bird the size of an American Robin. Too much to tell. Too much to remember. If I didn't bore you, I will continue. Let me know! One last thing: We hid, among other things, our report cards there! Loveya.Gerburg. Someone else with that name??? Never found one.

Couldn't agree more about the excellence of German beer and bread. Wherever I've lived since returning from Germany in 1977, I've tried to find the nearest thing to these two staples wherever I've been. It's got gradually easier since UK artisan baking grew incrementally. The best and nearest bread was from a Polish bakery nearby. As for beer, again our native brewing has improved gradually since the bad old days in the 70's. Greatest sadness: Duesseldorf Alt doesn't travel. Still, that justifies a trip every now and then.
