I learned of your fascinating website from the "Independent" newspaper article on "50 best travel websites" where you are listed. As a regular visitor to the GDR in the 1980s I found much of interest, and the travel pages on the former GDR made very useful reading.

A suggestion; your article on the 60,000 Sorb minority in the GDR was very informative. I did not know until after the re-unification of Germany that the penultimate leader of the GDR, who succeeded Erich Honecker, was a member of the Sorb minority; Egon Krenz. Perhaps this could be added to your article?

What do you think of the BBC's German season? It seems it's not just for the Brits.

I'm a German who has recently figured out how to watch BBC programms from abroad. I was really surprised by seeing this sort of astonishing "charming offensive" started by The BBC on modern Germany without "mentioning the war" (well, not THAT one :-) ).

Graham-Dixon's look on German art was very interessting, I think he did a great job so far combining the view on art with historical and political developments, although I don't share some of his statements regarding Luther and his alleged (somewhat politically inspired) idea of nation building.

Reading your article I became curious and watched .episode 8 of The Apprentice. It was so hilarious, and I often laughed out loudly. Goulash as a tipical German dish (it's hungarian by the way) and a crisp flavour! Or currywurst.? OMG! ...

But obviously, at first there was a real shock for the apprentices while they found themselves "technically" on German soil: "Germany is Britain's largest export market". Rather shitty if you don't like the Gernans as someone professed earlier...

Interesting though was the wording in the BBC summary of the episode plot:: ".... the candidates find it difficult to get their German cousins on board." Hmm, "cousins" it is now? Good to know.

P.S: Isn't it a bit bit appalling for these apprentices that everywhere they go they find someone who speaks English, even in a currywurstbude? Next time I'm in Britain I'll try with only German both in a first-class hotel and a fish-and-chips-shop as well...

The Wundermeisters also in German? One of our readers asked if we'd be thinking about publishing the site in German as well. What do you think?

Hallo Barbara, hello Andrew,

I was just wondering what you thought about publishing a parallel site in German? I teach German at UCL and we could use your website very well with our students - if it was written auf Deutsch! Any chance of that happening in the near future? If so, please let me know!
Great site! Best wishes,
Claudia
