]]> A ‘seaside’ hotel, with its own beach, between Berlin and Dresden? OK, so it’s on an artificial lake – the Senftenberger See, reclaimed from open-cast coal-mining – but it still makes a good stab at a seaside ambience, with a big stretch of sand, a campsite, lots of outdoorsy family activities, etc. The hotel itself looks like a misplaced section of airport architecture, but rooms are generous and well equipped. Definitely a family place.

]]> It can’t be easy filling such a big manor house in a location which doesn’t have a lot of headline attractions, but it is well placed for visits to Berlin, Potsdam, the Spreewald etc. Luckenwalde itself is a slightly dilapidated former industrial town which used to be a centre of Bauhaus architecture. The original 18th century house has been renovated and has a spa and pool, along with one of the best restaurants in Brandenburg.
